April 12, 2017 - Years ago it started out as a breakfast. Before long, it graduated to a luncheon for a few years. Now, what was formerly the Mayor’s Prayer Luncheon has become the Mayor’s Evening of Community Praise, taking place after the working hours. In doing so, our goal was to make it possible for more community and family involvement.

The close collaboration between the City of Deer Park and the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce was evident in the success of the evening – with an attendance of over 400 guests and representation from about a dozen local churches, we set a record for this year’s Evening of Praise!

There was an approving uproar from the crowd as we recognized Deer Park Police Chief Greg Grigg as Layman of the Year and Sherri Dial as Laywoman of the Year, whom have each volunteered countless hours of service and demonstrated boundless acts of kindness within our community.

After receiving their recognition, various pastors and local church leaders prayed over specific aspects of our city, such as the schools and those suffering from sickness or substance abuse. During breaks in prayer Chris Crump and his talented band stunned the audience with an absolutely delightful and uplifting performance of praise and worship.

The spirit in the room was palpable and everyone left renewed! Don’t miss out on next year’s Evening of Community Praise, which is sure to be another hit!

Each year the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce recognizes two Deer Park residents as Outstanding Layman and Laywoman. This recognition honors two individuals who have made significant contributions to others by giving of self through service. Join us to recognize the selected individuals!

This year we will be awarding the Outstanding Layman and Laywoman during the Mayor’s Evening of Community Praise, formerly the Mayor's Prayer Luncheon, which is scheduled to take place Tuesday, April 11, 2017. We are looking forward to presenting this honor to some very deserving and hard-working individuals.

Join Mayor Jerry Mouton, neighbors and local pastors and church leaders to worship and pray together as a community! Together, we will offer prayers for our city and businesses, our nation and our world!
